Who are we?
Gumtree Greys is a Melbourne-based independent rescue. We have supported the rescue, fostering and adoption of greyhounds in Victoria for over a decade.
We are an accessible and supportive community
Greyhound guardians can visit us at markets / through Facebook, or via our coordinator relationships. Our team offers ongoing support to adopters, helping greyhounds and their new families long term.
We are experts
We have decades of combined rescue experience, professional behaviour consultant as part of the team, our co ordinators have worked together for many, many years.
We use best practice
We follow the highest standards in animal rescue to provide the best outcomes for our dogs. We are constantly learning and implementing best practice operating procedures.
We are an ethical rescue
We are guided by our strong ethical principles, ensuring every decision is made in the best interest of the greyhounds, their guardians and the community.
We don't accept any money from the racing industry, relying instead on support from our generous community, bequests, fundraising and corporate sponsors. We speak out against cruelty and push for change. By placing greyhounds with foster carers, we can learn about the dog's personality and needs in home environments. We're transparent with our adopters regarding any trauma their dogs may have experienced and the potential challenges they may experience as a result.
We have core values
We believe in kindness, compassion, and the power of community to make a difference. We insist on a tolerant, non judgemental, welcoming attitude from all volunteers and community – we actually really like each other so we have a very long running team of core volunteers.
We are supportive
Our team offers lifetime support to adopters, helping greyhounds and their new families settle in together and thrive long-term.
We also provide exceptional care, and try our best to give every greyhound exactly what they need. We manage our finances and resources carefully to ensure that every dog gets the vet care or time in foster that they require.
We are professional
We are a registered charity, governed by our principles of transparency and accountability. We audit our accounts and publish these reports online, because we believe that the people who support us deserve to see where every cent is going.
