Testimonials
We fostered to adopt with Gumtree Greys and couldn't recommend them more! Our foster coordinator went above and beyond explaining the process in detail and answering our many questions before we started - and made herself available for the questions we had along the way. It's obvious how much they really care for the wellbeing of the dogs. The Gumtree Greys community is welcoming and supportive and is such a wealth of knowledge. There are plenty of organised catch ups that give the dogs (and their people) a chance to socialise and show off their wardrobe. We would not hesitate to foster or adopt through Gumtree Greys again!

“We are forever grateful for gumtree greys for bringing us our first foster fail (Ruby) and inducting us into the crazy greyhound world. Through GG we have made lifelong friends, both humans and houndies!”

I rescued a grey through another rescue back in 2020. She was not properly fostered and very challenging to have in my home. But I loved her so very much, and over the year and a half that she was on this earth with me, was the most rewarding experience. It really opened my eyes to how cruel the racing industry is to these beautiful souls. In 2022, I decided I wanted to foster. I didn't have the capacity to adopt again, but wanted to do anything I could to help as many of these precious babies get into the life they deserve. I did some research on a few organisations, and after reading about GGs fostering process and supports, I immediately knew this was going to be the right fit. From the very start, they have been nothing but supportive. They have worked to understand my disabilities, and help tailor the fostering experience to those needs, whether it be needing another coordinator to take the foster to a market or vet appointment, providing advice on how to manage/train challenging behaviours in a way that I was physically capable of doing, or linking up a service that could manage it for me - in my case a walking service for a reactive girl, as I am mobility impaired and couldn't handle it alone. I cannot overstate just how dedicated GGs is to providing the very best for their rescues, from pickup date, to their adoption, and even post adoption. We have a wonderful group on Facebook where anyone who has been involved with GGs in any way can post or comment. Sometimes I get to see posts of old fosters which makes my heart happy. Some people ask for advice, or share events that the community might be interested - and so much more. GGs provided everything I needed to foster, including but not limited to: collar, harness, bedding, coats, toys, food, medications (where needed), flea and worming tablets and paid vet bills. Their dedication to finding the right home for greyhounds is unparalleled. After two weeks I'd receive a form to fill out about my foster, and this is used to create the awesome adoption profiles you find on the GGs website! GGs won't just let the dog go to the first interested adopter. They properly vet each interested person, to determine whether the needs and personality of the dog will be a good fit. Sometimes there is another grey we have up for adoption that is suitable for the adopter, so a grey still gets a chance at a loving home. If a grey doesn't work out after adoption, adopters are encouraged to bring the grey back to us to re-enter foster until a new home is found. The welfare of the grey is put above all else, and GGs will move heaven and earth to make sure that they are able to support you and your GG for the duration of their life. Support doesn't stop after adoption. As I mentioned our Facebook community is filled with all kinds: fosterers, adopters, coordinators, people previously having owned or fostered a GG - The list goes on. I absolutely can't wait to start my next foster once circumstances allow. Because of the support GGs has provided, this is something I anticipate doing for the rest of my life, or until the industry is finally 100% shut down - whichever comes first. The picture attached is of my previous foster, affectionately nicknamed 'hurricane Sara's (now Pepper, post adoption), when she walked up to me with a moth on her nose and gave me big puppy eyes. It absolutely melts my heart whenever I see it.
